“Meme-o” craze takes music industry by storm

Emo musicians are the latest to embrace the rise in popularity of Internet memes.

With the captioned viral graphics becoming ubiquitous throughout social networks in recent months, several renowned names of emo music including Hawthorne Heights and Taking Back Sunday have unveiled plans to reissue past albums in the “meme” format.

The announcements come following Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance’s recent decision to make his band’s entire back catalogue available as downloadable JPEG images, for as much as 5% off the physical albums’ standard prices.
